When I tell people that I meal plan for our family, they are often curious as to how I do it. In this post, you can read about how I food plan. They ask a lot of questions once I explain how I do it. So, I thought I'd answer some of the most often asked questions about meal planning today!

How do you plan meals for your family?

Do your children eat everything you prepare?

No! However, because I only make one meal for supper, our house rule is that they must consume the same amount of bites as their age. So, in order to be excused from the table. delighted when their request is granted. 

How can you come up with new food ideas without being bored

Depending on our schedule, I try to add a new recipe once a week or every other week. Because new meals take longer to prepare, I might keep that recipe for the weekend. Some new recipes are winners, while others are flops. 

How do you eat breakfast?

My household has a few basic options, and when I build my grocery list, I make sure to check my pantry for what we need. My husband enjoys cereal and orange juice, so I simply ask him what sort of cereal he prefers and order it for him. The youngsters typically eat frozen pancakes and waffles, cereal, bagels, and toast. With my coffee, I generally just have a Lara Bar!

What do you have during lunch?

Again, I simply make certain that my children have stuff in their lunches that they enjoy. Because they are creatures of habit, they prefer peanut butter sandwiches or meat and crackers with raw vegetables, fruit, and a small dessert.

My husband brings leftovers to work every day, so I make more than I think we'll need for most meals. Lucy and I eat leftovers or whatever the big kids pack in their lunches. I occasionally eat those bagged salad combinations as well!

How frequently do you arrange your meals?

Once a week, I like to food plan. It works nicely for our family because our food plan corresponds to our schedule. If you're just getting started, I recommend meal planning once a week to avoid being overwhelmed.

Why do you arrange your meals?

I despise the feeling of not knowing what to make for dinner and then not having the necessary ingredients on hand. We don't have the money to eat out very often, so meal planning allows me to prepare easy meals that fit our hectic schedule without giving me a headache. My existence revolves on a little forethought.

How frequently do you go shopping?

Every week. After I've planned my meals, I order all of my groceries online and usually pick them up on Mondays for the week. Occasionally, I forget something or something comes up that I didn't plan for, and then either my husband or I rush to get it, but this is unusual!

Do you shop at multiple stores or use coupons?

I don't think so. I do my grocery shopping online. I'm not as tempted by all the things that aren't on my list because I'm not at the store. I save a lot of money and almost always stay within our weekly food budget ($125)!

What tools do you use to plan your meals?

I use a food planner. On the adjacent perforated grocery list, you can make your meal plan and scribble down your grocery list. When I'm stuck for ideas, I can go back and look at what I've already done.
